However, other countries have also taken action in restricting food exports. Quoting Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao report, Kazakhstan, the world’s major wheat exporter, has banned the export of wheat flour, carrots, sugar and potatoes; Serbia has halted the export of sunflower oil and other goods; and the Russian Vegetable Oil Union has requested restrictions on the export of sunflower seeds; worldwide Exports from Malaysia, the second largest producer of palm oil, have also slowed; exports from India, the world’s largest rice exporter, have also stalled because of the “closed country”.
